In a time of uncertainty that has become our reality you may have lost sight of your habits, but this is not the time to lose sight of the healthy habits you have worked hard to put in place!
When clients come to me I recommend making healthy changes step by step rather than uprooting and changing everything. One way I recommend making healthy changes is by inserting healthy habits into your daily life. These habits set you up for success even when your day might be affected by a minor hiccup like a sick child, a last minute work trip or a major hiccup like a COVID-19 shutdown. This is the time to fall back on your good habits rather than lose sight of them.
If you have lost some of your healthy habits, don’t worry! You can easily add some positive habits back into your life with habit stacking. What is habit stacking? You pair a new habit with something you already do.
Examples of paired up habits:
-Drink 8oz of water when you brush your teeth
-I will only go on social media after I have exercised
-I will eat all of my vegetables before I eat dessert
These are just a few examples for people to easily insert habits into their daily life. I have also found that it is much easier to add in positive habits in contrast to taking away bad habits. By pairing up habits you aren’t taking away little indulgences. Heck, everyone needs to indulge while navigating the uncharted waters of COVID-19.
Staying on track
Now as you are adding new healthy habits into your life, you are bound to miss a day here and there and that is totally fine!! Obviously the point of putting habits in place is to make it a habit and do it every day. Unfortunately life throws us curve balls and that is OK. Give yourself grace, evaluate why you were thrown off track, and make a plan to be more successful tomorrow. The key is to not lose sight of the habit completely. We aren’t perfect and no one expects us to be completely perfect all the time.
What new habits have you put in place during all your time at home? There is no better time than now to implement healthy habits in your home and with the other members in your home!
If you would like to include a strength session as a part of your new healthy habit let me know! I would love to do a virtual session with you!
